Title: The Power of Community-Based Consultancy in Shifting Development: A Focus on Rural Communities in Kenya Community-based consultancy has emerged as a potent tool in shifting the development paradigm, especially in rural communities. Community organizations, entry strategies, and knowledge about rural communities are key aspects that influence the success of this approach. This article will explore how community-based consultancy can foster development, particularly in rural communities in Kenya. Community organizations are the backbone of any community. They serve as a bridge between the community and external stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private sector entities. In rural communities in Kenya, these organizations play a pivotal role in mobilizing resources, advocating for community rights, and implementing development projects. However, the success of these organizations often hinges on their ability to understand and work wit

I BELIEVED GETTING MARRIED WAS ESSENTIAL FOR MY SUCCESS

Our Executive director wrote a candid piece of how he discovered the idea of making a five year plan and how it has transformed his life. Many young people would put marriage as the last thing on the list because they believe it's an expensive affair- He put marriage top on his list of priorities and considered it a critical element if at all he was to succeed in life. WORKING WITH YOUNG WOMEN ON PROJECTS IS THE BEST UNTIL......

Image
One of the things we do very well at www.plomuna.co.ke and we have enjoyed doing it for a long time is supporting community projects to come up with implementation teams. For small grassroot organizations without huge budgets, having people who are dedicated to a mission and vision just long enough until money starts to come in is always a matter of life and death. On one hand you want to inspire them enough to see that suffering and sacrificing is part and parcel of the process- on the other hand you want have to at least provide the basics so that they do not drown in despair and hopelessness.  In 2019 when supporting one of our clients in a remote rural village in Western Kenya,  any time we called a meeting for community members to discuss the project and the CBO we were about to launch, more than half of the people that showed up were women. A spectrum of women, aged between 20 and 65 years old. The difference that stood between these women was who had been married in this commun

YOUNG PEOPLE WANT IT NOW NOT LATER

Image
Imagine if you asked a young person what their dream was, and they answered- "To have lots of money so I can enjoy life" It would be easy to think that they are just joking and maybe they have another real answer. Well, let me surprise you! they are damn serious about it. To make it even more interesting would be if you asked this follow-up question, How they plan to have a lot of money so they can enjoy life. The answer will be even more surprising.... A dead silence and blank stare followed by a few incoherent ideas that have no basis in principles of work or business.  This what we get all the time during the personal coaching and development sessions. In the first meeting an engagement that our Managing director had with a twenty something young lady- He started with basic debrief. This session mostly is where a participant is allowed un interrupted 30 minutes of self expression. They speak about their ambitions, goals, desires, challenges, opportunities and everything i

A MISSIONARY APPROACH IS WHAT IS NEEDED TO DEVELOP AFRICA

Image
HOW TO DEVELOP AFRICA When I first heard about Dr. Ludwig Krapf’s visit to Kenya in 1844, I was in class seven or eight in my primary school, at that time, I was 13 years old. It was important to know him and several other names of early missionaries, because no pupil was in control over which name would be tested in the national examination. The questions in the examination at that level would mostly take the shape of – Who was the first Missionary to come to Kenya, or which year they came, and the multiple choices would be provided for you to choose from. Long before that, when I was just a few days old in this word, I had been introduced to early missionaries work and the indoctrination had begun. My mum, who I love so much had voluntarily presented me to church so I could be blessed and be given a name. A Christian name. The shaping of my identity, who I would become and how I would view the world had voluntarily been designed for me. My parents especially my mum, was assigne
